Just A Plane Ride Away - 1

'You got everything?!' Mum shouted up to me'

'Yeah' I said as I grabbed my iPod and shoved in my pocket.

'Come on then! Where gonna be late!'

'I know I'm coming!'

'Don't shout at me young lady!'

I sighed as I attempted to roll my suitcase down the stairs. Not a great idea. With a lot of turning and twisting, I finally got it downstairs.

'Put your case in the car, it's open, don't forget to close the boot after you've put it in.'

'Ok, and no, I will just leave the boot open for all the neighbours to see.'

Mum stared at me with a 'I'm not entertained' look, so I headed out the door before it could become worse. I trotted to our car, lift open the boot and sighed. 'There's no room for my suitcase! It's all Mum junk. Suppose it will have to ride in the back.'
I threw it in and closed the door.

'Can we go now?!' I begged Mum.

'Don't rush me!'

'You were just rushing me! I mean – I mean, sure...'

10 or so minutes we were in the car and heading for the airport. Well, unless heading really meant 'stuck in traffic on the M25' I'm not sure.
'Shan. Shan. SHANNON!?'

'WHAT!' I yelled as I took out one of my headphones.

'You've always got your headphones in listening to music! It's not good for your ears, and I'm just here calling you and your just bopping along to one of ---'

'Mum, can you just tell me what you wanted? I'm missing music time...'

Mum sighed. 'I just wanted to ask you to keep a eye out for the signs thats say 'Heathrow Airport' ok?'

'Yeah. Ok. Sure. Whatever.' I agreed as I popped my headphones back in.

Couple hours later, we were there! Yeah, Heathrow Airport, London. Been here about 5 – 10 times here before, but the last time I actually flew away somewhere from here was a very long time ago. But now here I was, 4 years later going on holiday again! For a month! Ahh I couldn't wait to land.

'Come on Shan, let's go put our luggage through and we can look through the shops before we have to board.'

'Yeah alright' I agreed.

'Hello' welcomed the woman at the desk.

'Hiya, here are our tickets, and umm, if you wouldn't mind, can we look around before we board?'

'Oh, I'm sorry Mam, flight 045 have already started boarding passengers, if you wouldn't mind take your seat on the plane now please.'

'Oh yeah, absolutely, where about do we have to go?'

The woman pointed out the directions 'Simply take a left and keep walking until you see your flight number and name'

'Ah thank you very much.'

We started walking. And walking. And walking. Finally we arrived to our plane. We handed over our tickets and went through the security detector things. Mum's belt made it go off, so that was a 5 minute delay. We finally made it passed and we boarded the plane. It was quite big, we took our seats and waited for about 1 hour.
'See, we could have gone to the shops.'

'Yeah, don't blame it on me, it wasn't my fault. Remember?'

The plane was quite silent. Then we started moving, I think half of the plane started cheering, a few clapped. I was just glad that we were actually getting somewhere! A number of hours later and we had reached our destination. We were here, we were actually here! We stepped off the plane and I smiled at the view. I looked over to my right, and there was a sign. It read,

'Welcome to New York.'
